They Said It Couldn't Be Done William S. Peckham
They said it couldn't be done
I couldn't walk with the big dogs
They said I was too insignificant
What I wanted could only be done
In the big city, by the big dogs
I'm from a small kennel, that's true
And I ran with the small dogs
Yet, when I spoke, even they listened
I laughed when I remembered
They said it couldn't be done.
I planned, I schemed and I worked
When I finally made it to the top
They said "Boy are you lucky
You have it all." But what did they know
They said it couldn't be done
Well, I did it. I ran with the big dogs
They played my game by my rules
I laughed when I thought
They said it couldn't be done
I retired now but for thirty years
I lead the pack, set the trend
Now dozens of others go
Where I went first; they followed
And they said it couldn't be done.
