Current Artscape Artists
Helen Fosbery at Kelowna Public Library
Helen Fosbery was born and educated in Vernon. She especially enjoyed school painting classes and was particularly encouraged by her grades 5 and 6 teachers. Being an enthusiastic gardener, she has always been deeply appreciative of the natural wonders and beauty of our world.
While living in Lumby Helen joined a small group of pleasure painters who met each week in a school basement. One member had received her formal art education in Belgium
and freely shared her knowledge - a tremendous benefit to all members. Periodically other professional artists were invited to give short workshops.
In 1971 Helen and her husband moved to Kelowna but she was forced to forego painting until her retirement in 1988. Since then it has become an absorbing retirement interest. She has attended classes given by Jim Kalnin, Liljan Christiansen, Joan Needham, and Tove Sorensen, and workshops by Gerry Puley, Alex Fong, Tom Tinkler, Phil Stang and Zoltan Szabo, also workshops on Salt Spring Island presented by the Federation of Canadian Artists.
In 1989 Helen became a member of the Kelowna Palette Club and joined the Kelowna Watercolour Guild in 1994. Her work is mostly with watercolours, but she also enjoys oils and pastels.

Mayumi Hatano at Kelowna Community Theatre
Born and raised in Japan, Mayumi Hatano immigrated to Canada in 1989, and has been a resident of Kelowna since 1993. Her painting pursuit started in Canada and in her relatively short professional painting career, she has been recognized for her diversity of painting styles and technical skills. Mayumi is a self-taught artist.
Mayumi was a professional resident artist in Kelowna of the Rotary Centre for the Arts from 2002-2005. Her clients include Orchard Park Shopping Mall (Kelowna), Jean Fournel Foundation (Montreal), McCain Foods Ltd (New Brunswick), North American Montessori Center (Surrey), Scherzinger Winery (Summerland), Kasugai Sister City Civic Association (Aichi, Japan) and she has just finished 300 exclusive limited edition prints for the Grand Okanagan Resort and Conference Centre (Kelowna).
She was also Chairperson of artist delegation for Aichi Expo 2005 in Japan, presenting her work to Kasugai Sister City Civic Association.

Angela Bonten at Cottonwoods

Being an artist defines who I am. The creative process is the essence of my life from viewing, photographing, studying and creating the work.
I do not adhere to one particular style but alternate depending on the subject matter and my mood. I generally work in series and keep exploring an idea.
In the Fabrication series I am recreating and drawing on the imagery from my fascination and love of textiles. I am intrigued by the structures and as I explore the theme I realise how many things around us are also interwoven and created on a grid.
My Rhythm of Nature series is looking at the flowing rhythms of the environ.

I am very spontaneous when I work. I love to respond to the accidents of the paint and try not to have a preconceived idea of what the painting will be.
For me painting is a time to explore and contemplate my environment.
